Fiftieth anniversary of the Channel crossing by Bleriot.
The amazing flight by Jean Salis in the Bleriot XI 
F-PERV across the Channel on July 15th cannot pass without
recognition in these columns. Accompanied by Hornet Moth
G-ADOT, Monarch G-AFJU and Messenger G-AISL the Bleriot flew
from St Anglevert to Lympne. Thence it was put on a lorry
and taken to the control point of the 'Daily Mail' Air Race
at Marble Arch, where it could be seen resting quietly beneath 
the trees of Hyde Park. One wonders what we will owe
fifty years hence at the centennial celebration of Bleriots
famous flight!.

Highlights June/July.

The two CL-28 Argus (20723 and 20728) of the RCAF
have been seen over a wide area, H.C.Wilden logged
one on the 25/6. up in S.W.Norfolk, nearly all
members have reported them in the London area.
Another type seen for the first time, was a SAAB
Draken, seen contrailing over Uxbridge, by B.Martin
on the 7/7.
  The 'Daily Mail' Air Race has provided a variety
of helicopters from Battersea heliport, G.Garbett
saw the following between 13th and 23rd July.

Large numbers of different types are now appearing
decked out in Dayglo orange, the USAF seems to be
the greatest user, latest to be painted include
C-47s, a few T-33A's and even a L-20A (52-6140) was
seen over N.Essex on the 16/7, sporting a orange
cowling, rear fuselage and wing-tips.
